Graham Twist
Founder and Principal Drum Teacher
Graham has been playing drums for 30 years since the age of 14. He began performing behind the kit almost immediately, firstly at school, then with various local bands. Within 3 years he was touring the UK playing some of the country's best known venues, including The Cavern in Liverpool, and playing at various festivals.
Aged 21, Graham joined Whole Lotta Led, the UK's best and busiest Led Zeppelin tribute band. He notched up over 1100 gigs in his 13 years on the drum stool including the prestigious Astoria in London in 2005. He's also had the privilege of recording at the world famous Abbey Road studios in London.
Graham now has a very busy gig schedule with various bands including Dire Streets and The Corduroy Kings.
From the very start of his career Graham has learned from the best, studying with Francis Seriau and Paul Elliott (Tech Music Schools, London) and Steve White (Paul Weller, The Style Council).
Graham's a passionate and dedicated teacher, inspiring and energising his students to fulfil their goals and maximise their potential.
Tom Gilkes
Drum Teacher
Tom has been playing drums since the age of 12.
He studied at The British and Irish Institute of Modern Music (BIMM) in Bristol and turned professional when he was 20.
He's toured all over the UK and Europe with artists such as Marc Ford (The Black Crowes) and recorded in the studio with Brian Banks (Michael Jackson's "Thriller" album) and Clint Murphy (Manic Street Preachers).
Tom regularly performs with a huge variety of artists and bands including Eddie Martin, John Paul Gard (Groovelator), Innes Sibun (Robert Plant), Pete Gage (Dr Feelgood) and Jon Amor (The Hoax).
Tom has studied with world reknowned drummers such as Dave Weckl (Chick Corea, BB King), Aaron Comess (Spin Doctors) and Dave Dicenso (Berklee College Head of drums, USA), and has previously done work for both Rhythm magazine and Drummer magazine.
Tom's infectious enthusiasm for drumming and teaching shines through in every single lesson he gives, exciting and encouraging his students to be the best they can be.
Marcus Thurston
Guitar Teacher
Marcus began playing the guitar at 12 years old.
He's been a guitar instructor for over thirty years and worked in schools for the past fourteen years.
Marcus attained a scholarship to attend the Musicians Institute of Technology in London where he studied Rock, Jazz, Latin and everything in-between.
After graduating Marcus went on to work in the music industry working with signed acts from the pop and rock world as well as doing session and television work.
For ten years Marcus toured worldwide with the original Iron Maiden front man Paul Di'Anno.
He is still performing internationally with his own band Vega and is currently working on their fifth album.
Marcus specialises in improvisation and modal playing as well as advanced lead guitar techniques.
He's a vibrant, committed member of the team whose extraordinary teaching skills can help any guitarist at any level.
John Ganner
Drum Teacher
John began playing at the age of 9 and did his first gig at school aged just 10.
He has a BA (Hons) degree from The Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford where he studied under big names such as Pete Riley and Toby Drummond.
John has recorded and performed with many bands, most notably with The Microdance whose debut album featured Smashing Pumpkins bass player Nicole Fiorentino. He's also headlined festivals and performed in some of the country's major venues.
John is a fantastic asset to the team here at Rhythm Hub, animating and enlivening his students to enable them to achieve their musical aims.
Marc Symonds
Drum Teacher
Marc’s had a fascination with the drums for as long as he can remember. He first started playing aged 12/13 when Bream Silver band had had enough of moving him from one appalling attempt at a brass instrument to another and eventually parked him on the drum stool.
In his early teens, he taught himself guitar and has played either drums or guitar in a number of bands over the years, notably Doyenne, Earnest Cox & datapuddle.
With his latest project, Dead Anyway he gets to play drums and guitar whilst recording, and decided to really get his teeth into drumming again in order to take the project live. It’s reawakened a passion for the instrument, and he can’t get enough of it.
Marc would be thrilled if his 40 years of playing and writing music could help you to achieve your musical ambitions, and looks forward to welcoming you behind the kit: in his words “the best seat in the house".
Luke Keveren
Drum and Guitar Teacher
Luke is a multi-instrumentalist who started playing drums and guitar as a teenager. He achieved a BA (Hons) degree in Popular Music from the University of Gloucestershire as well as an extended Diploma in Music from Gloucestershire College.
He's played multiple gigs and festivals all over the UK including 2000 Trees and Wychwood Festival performing with an artist called Santia. Luke has also performed in Spain and Denmark.
He has vast experience playing in bands and recording in studios.
Luke is extremely passionate about music and teaching in particular. He's patient and hard-working and caters to the needs of every student to help them achieve their musical dreams.
REVIEWS
Don't just take our word for it, here's what people are saying about Rhythm Hub...
Graham has been teaching my 10 year old daughter the drums since Rhythm Hub started. She loves going every Saturday morning. Graham even came over to our house to set her drums up for her. I cannot recommend Rhythm Hub or Graham highly enough.
5+ Stars from us.
Rob Bingham
Having been a wannabe drummer for years, I finally got round to booking a taster session with Marc. I thoroughly enjoyed it and haven't looked back since. Excellent facilities and an even better teacher. Would recommend to anyone (even an oldie like me). First class.
Dean Peters
My 8 year old son has been having lessons with Tom at Rhythm Hub now for 6 months and has learned more than he did in the 2 years previously. I can't recommend Rhythm Hub highly enough. If you're thinking of taking up drumming, go to these guys. They know what they're doing and you won't be disappointed.
Mark Edwards
Marcus is an absolutely fantastic guitar teacher. I've enjoyed every session I've had with him and he's always giving me new songs to learn and new exercises to help me improve my technique. Can't recommend him highly enough.
Simon Matthews
Really been enjoying my lessons with John. Started as a very nervous beginner and he's helped me get the basics up and running and start to find my feet (and my hands!) Now my confidence is growing and I can't wait for my lesson each week. Brilliant stuff
